WHY PUBLISOKO

Across Africa, many authors have completed manuscripts but struggle to find the right publisher. At the same time, publishers are looking for strong, well-positioned manuscripts but often cannot find them easily.

PubliSoko provides a clear, structured pathway for manuscript discovery.

PubliSoko guides you through a structured submission process that helps you present your manuscript in the way publishers think and evaluate.

Publishers within the Africa Speaks network can then review your work and reach out directly if it aligns with their mission and publishing focus.

This is a system where authors become more discoverable, and publishers can engage more effectively.

Understanding the Publishing Process

Publishing is not only about good writing. It is about selecting, developing, and distributing books that serve a defined audience and align with a publisher’s mission and catalogue.

Every manuscript is evaluated within this broader context. Understanding how this process works helps you position your work more effectively from the start.

Manuscript Acquistion

This is where your manuscript is first considered.

Publishers review submissions to determine whether a manuscript aligns with their mission, audience, and publishing focus. They are assessing clarity of concept, strength of message, and overall fit within their catalogue.

This stage determines whether your manuscript moves forward or stops here.

Editing Process

If your manuscript is acquired, it enters editorial development.

Editors work closely with you to refine the structure, strengthen the argument or narrative, and ensure the book communicates clearly to its intended audience. This stage transforms your manuscript into a publishable work.

Production

Once the content is finalised, the manuscript moves into production.

This includes design, layout, typesetting, and formatting. Your manuscript becomes a finished book, prepared for print and digital formats.

Distribution and Marketing

The final stage is getting your book into the hands of readers.

Publishers manage distribution channels, visibility, and marketing efforts to ensure your book reaches the right audience and achieves its intended impact.

Why This Matters for You

The way your manuscript is presented at the acquisition stage determines whether it progresses through the rest of the journey.

Publishers will contact you directly using the email provided during submission. The initial contact occurs through the PubliSoko platform, and Africa Speaks will be aware of this first interaction. Africa Speaks is not liable for agreements made outside the platform.

Yes. Authors can update or withdraw their proposals at any time from their dashboard before publishers express interest. This ensures you remain in control of your work and how it’s presented to potential publishers.
